Shock Alert: The Nation's Largest Grocer Wants To Help You Get Healthier!

Photo: Associated Press
The First Lady of the United States has joined forces with Wal-Mart, the nation's largest food provider in an effort to help Americans get healthier.  In the article, Wal-Mart gives boost to push for healthier food (January 20, 2011) -- the company plans on reducing produce prices and build stores in poor areas that do not already have grocery stores.

Wal-Mart also plans to concentrate on products like lunch meats, fruit juices and salad dressings that are high in sugar or sodium -- in essence, all foods with high salt and sugar content which most consumers don't realize they're consuming.  The company will start tracking its suppliers' improvements in making food more healthy, using the year 2008 as a baseline.

Side note: Wal-Mart's produce has never looked as delicious and organized as it is portrayed in the associated press photo. The First Lady should make unplanned visits to every Wal-Mart in America. In any event, I smell a challenge for this mega retailer/grocer to maintain their mission of providing fresh produce, while keeping prices low. I will be watching. Let the games begin. Repeat Clothing Alert: Michelle Obama

Last week there was an article on Yahoo! News referring to the first lady of the United States as a recessionista in residence (Reuse, Renew, Reverse: Michelle Obama’s sweater two ways - Yahoo! News).  My immediate thought reading the article confirmed my suspicions: this woman is indeed awesome! We all know full well Michelle Obama is a highly educated and sophisticated woman -- and, being the first lady of the United States, I'm sure she could wear a different outfit every hour of the day.  Interestingly enough, repeating outfits obviously is not a big deal for America's new fashion icon. Take notice my friends, it is not a big deal to repeat clothing, accessories, shoes, etcetera when you're in the public eye. If you are the type of person who falls for the celebrity limelight mantras 'I want what she's wearing' and the 'I can only wear it once' business -- know that it's not a honking big deal to repeat fashion. Gasp! Yes, that's right: "It's Not a Big Deal to Repeat Fashion." Reuse. Renew. Reverse. Love it. As always, stay strong and carry on. The End. [LLIS]

Conversations: Unemployment - Head on Fire

Follow my blog with bloglovin

The Associated Press -- Washington. "President Barack Obama is thanking senators for acting to restore unemployment benefits to 2.5 million people who began losing their checks weeks ago."

A close family member has been in my ear for a good month discussing with extreme intensity on how the holdout has placed a financial strain on their family. I understand wholeheartedly. However, the conversation always leaves me with the side of my head feeling like it's on fire. So my friends, I'm pleased to read of this news reported from the good people working at The Associated Press. My mood is calm and all is well in my world -- for the moment.
