FlashBack! You Know You Love It: Hasbro Candy Land Board Game

Hasbro.com
Remember Candy Land? I do. Did you know Candy Land was created by a recovering Polio patient living in San Diego, California -- Eleanor Abbot created the game to entertain children suffering from Polio.  Ms. Abbot submitted her idea to Hasbro -- Hasbro in turn loved the idea, introducing it to America in 1949 (Hasbro.com).  The first Candy Land board game was sold for one dollar -- advertising during that time was geared towards families assuring them the game fulfilled a child's yearning for candy, as if. Too cute.  The image above is what the board game looked like when I played with it -- ah, good times.

And wait...look what I found, a Candy Land commercial from the 80s.

As always, Enjoy!

My So-Called Movie Review: Sucker Punch PG-13 (110 min)

A young girl is institutionalized by her abusive stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the mental facility (IMBd.com).

BlacBlouse Rating: 6.8/10

First impression: What in the world?! For the life of me, couldn't figure out what was going on, until the end of the movie...turns out this chick (Baby Doll, the main character) was escaping reality, then escaping reality again - in the midst of escaping reality...if that makes any sense. Gawd, I feel lost. In any case, it was definitely an interesting movie. Makes me wonder if the movie was based off of a video game. No idea.  If this type of film is your gig...Science Fiction, Escapism, Combat Sequences and Seductive Dancing...then check it out at your local movie theater and let me know your thoughts. See trailer below. As always, Enjoy!

A writer discovers a top-secret drug which bestows him with super human abilities.(IMBd.com)

BlacBlouse Rating: 6.7/10
First impression: interesting story line - I sat in the movie theater thinking, I heard this story someplace before...you know, the some product or force of nature giving one the ability to do and go anywhere they please kind of thing. Overall, it was a decent film. If you're into this sort of thing...fantasy, science fiction -  or even a big Bradley Cooper or Robert De Niro fan, go check it out at your local movie theater and let's chat about it. My So-Called Movie Review: Madea's Big Happy Family PG-13 (103min)

Madea jumps into action when her niece, Shirley, receives distressing news about her health. All Shirley wants is to gather her three adult children around her and share the news as a family. (IMBd.com)

BlacBlouse Rating: 7 / 10
(Rating is based on comparing this movie with other Tyler Perry Films - don't have a cow)
IMDb.com

First impression: decent Tyler Perry film. Yes, I liked it...it has a nice family message. I will not disclose what I thought to be most impressive in the movie because it doesn't take much to tell the whole film -- I can sum it up in one sentence. In any case, it was decent and a tad bit enjoyable. If you're a fan of Tyler Perry movies (see trailer), go check it out at the theater and let's chat about it.  As always, Enjoy!

My So-Called Movie Review: Insidious PG-13 (103 min)

A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

BlacBlouse Rating: 7/10
(IMDb.com)

First impression: dreadfully long beginning.  I believe it took just about 20 dreadful minutes before this movie started to become remotely interesting. Overall, the story line is pretty good. The ending: very good. There is a twist at the end which leads me to believe a sequel may be in the works. In any case, if you like this type of movie (see trailer below): Horror! Suspense! Thrill!  ... check it out at the theater and let me know your thoughts. As always, Enjoy!

TB 2011: Sing In The Rain

I have been feeling a tad bit under the weather this past week and lately it has been raining a whole heck of a lot. Needless to say, I don't enjoy feeling miserable -- especially when its raining, makes me uncomfortable and extremely tired. So, I created an equation.  I call it the 'not feeling well' equation.
Here it is: under the weather (ill) + continuous rain (outdoors) = singing and dancing.
Does this mean I'll sing and dance outside in the rain? Heck no. Is this a real equation? Of course not.

Here's where the thought bubble comes in:
My immediate thought went to the scene where Gene Kelly is singing and dancing in the rain -- all in the name of love.  It's cute -- and kind of funny watching a grown man dance and sing in the street.
So, love and enjoy this scene where Gene Kelly is feeling oh so good - Singing In The Rain.

As always, Enjoy!

NEW SERIES ALERT!

Welcome to the first installment of

SWAMI Says 'Insert Title Here' - ZIB (ZIB = Zip It BlacBlouse).

This series is created to help me NOT to speak out loud (in Internet land or any other place for that matter) about the ridiculousness I come across in my day to day activities.

Friends, today I spotted something interesting that just didn't settle well in my bones.  Now naturally, those who have been following this dear sweet blog are well aware of it's intent -- always publish lighthearted and inspiring posts.  So, in an effort to maintain the mission of lightheartedness I give you a little number which first aired in a 1946 live action animated Disney movie entitled 'Song of the South' --
Listen and Love the song, Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah, sung by James Baskett.
